Hello, and welcome to what we hope will be the first issue in a long-running tradition: the Primordialog, and with it, our inaugural Dead Report for Death Zone.
This post marks a major moment for us as a studio. Primordial Game has been working for a longtime, quietly building towards this point through late nights, countless prototypes, rewrites, overhauls, and more than a few cursed bugs and black screens of death along the way. Every indie studio has their war stories, but this past weekend felt like a turning point.
For the first time, Primordial Games stepped out from behind the screens and into the spotlight with a full presence at Phoenix Fan Fusion 2026. And while we had a slight stumble out of the gate, we rallied with three strong presentations: one focused entirely on Death Zone, and two presented in partnership with our community program, AZ Game Devs.
Seeing packed rooms, engaged attendees, and so many new faces discovering both our studio and our community was energizing in a way that’s hard to put into words. It reminded us why we’re building Death Zone in the first place and why sharing our journey matters.
This first Primordialog is our way of opening the doors a little wider. We’ll look back at Fan Fusion, talk about what we’ve been building since the panel, and share a glimpse at where we’re headed next as both a studio and a game.
Fan Fusion
Fan Fusion was something special this year. Together with our growing AZ Game Devs community, Primordial Games sponsored three panels that showcased everything from beginner‑friendly development advice to a deep dive into the creation of Death Zone.
Those panels were:
- Intro to Game Development — our accessible, community focused talk for new and aspiring developers.
- Crunch Time: Prototyping a Game in Under an Hour — a chaotic, high energy live demo that showed how fast ideas can become playable.
- Concept to Creation: The Story of Death Zone — our first fully game focused panel, walking attendees through the origins, evolution, and future of Death Zone.
For Crunch Time, we built a small, self-contained prototype live on stage complete with last-minute fixes, improvised design choices, and the kind of delightful chaos only a live demo can deliver.
And because so many attendees asked for it afterward, we’ve made the exact build used on stage available for download in the AZ Game Dev Discord. If you want to poke around, break it, study it, or use it as inspiration for your own projects, it’s there waiting for you.
This addition not only gives your community something tangible to take home, but it also reinforces the educational mission behind AZ Game Devs and shows that Primordial Games is serious about transparency and accessibility.
This was our first major convention appearance as a studio, and the response was incredible. Packed rooms, great questions, and a ton of new faces discovering both Primordial Games and the AZ Game Devs community for the first time. It was energizing to see so many people excited about game development and even more excited about what we’re building.
Everyone who attended any of our panels received a special invitation code to the Death Zone Discord server. Anyone who joined over the weekend also received a unique in-game code that will be redeemable later this year when we go live with our first public demo.
What was the code for?
26 Phoenix Emblem:

This emblem is exclusive to Fan Fusion attendees and early community supporters. If you missed out, don’t worry. There will be more opportunities throughout the year to earn this exclusive emblem.
We also have a second version planned for players who join up during the beta period later this year
Haunted Desert:

We’ll have more to share about these emblems, and about broader player customization, later this year.
Studio Updates:
The weeks leading up to Fan Fusion were some of the busiest we’ve had in a long time, but the momentum hasn’t slowed since the convention wrapped. Our team returned energized by the conversations, feedback, and support we received from the community. Since then, we’ve been hard at work polishing features, improving workflows, and building on everything we showcased at the event. It’s been a collaborative, inspiring stretch of development, and we’re excited to keep sharing the journey with you
Future Events:
With Fan Fusion wrapped, we’re already hard at work preparing for our next appearances. While we can’t share specifics just yet, you can count on Primordial Games making an appearance at Game On Expo 2027 right here in Phoenix, Arizona.
We’ll also have members of the development team attending Tucson Comic Con later this year. If you spot us wandering the floor, say hello, you might just earn yourself the 26 Phoenix Emblem.
